Connectwell’s Marshalling Terminal Blocks for the Telengana Super Thermal Power Project
January 2020
The Telangana Super Thermal Power Project (TSTPP) laid its 1st foundation in August 2016 for the 4GW thermal power project, being developed in two phases. The under-construction first phase comprises 1.6GW (2x800MW) coal-based power plant with super critical technology. The second phase will add 2.4GW to the project by commissioning three 800MW units.
A Thermal Power plant requires tremendous amounts of monitoring and control. A large level Distributed Control System (DCS) is deployed to give the plant operators a birds-eye view of the health of the entire power plant. For any such Distributed control system, the wiring density is very high and complex due to different types of field monitoring and control devices spread out physically over a large land area. To achieve the connection of all these field devices a Marshalling cabinet is essential to handle the dense wiring needs.
The Challenge
A typical System Cabinet in DCSDue to the need for the large number of field cables to be connected in the system cabinet a layer of Marshalling Cabinets is needed. With the use of standard Terminal Blocks, a large number of Marshalling cabinets would have been required by the system integrator. This would have resulted in a huge foot print, and a substantial portion of the Control Cabinet building would have been occupied with these Marshalling cabinets.
The Connectwell Solution
CP8L32 PUSH IN Terminal BlockThe CP8L32 Marshalling Terminal block with the possibility of connecting 32 wires in just 9 mm thickness was the perfect solution for solving the high wiring density requirements. With the advanced PUSH-IN connection technology, the CP8L32 terminal block was able to achieve quick wiring of field devices. The alternating Orange and White Push Buttons on top enabled clear legibility of connection points and facilitated error free wiring.

The serious issue of signal interruption which caused the High speed train to slow down was resolved by Connectwell by using the corrosion free CXK2.5 terminals with spring clamp technology – with the result that trains are now running at their optimum operational speed.
The client was very satisfied with the technical solution provided by Connectwell which resolved a vexing operational issue with precision and cost effectiveness.
